Sitamarhi Cave

Sitamarhi Cave is a rock-cut chamber with a trapezoidal entrance located near Rajgir. The interior features polished granite surfaces measuring approximately 5 meters in length and 3 meters in width.

The cave was created during the Maurya Empire period and displays construction techniques similar to the nearby Barabar caves. Its geometric precision and surface finishing suggest advanced stone working knowledge.

The name references a legendary story where the mythological figure Sita sought shelter at this site. Visitors can sense today the religious significance this place holds for many people.

The cave sits approximately 20 kilometers southwest of Rajgir and is accessible from several locations in the region. Interior temperature remains constant year-round, making visits comfortable regardless of season.
