Kakolat, Waterfall in Nawada district, Bihar, India
Kakolat is a waterfall in the Nawada district of Bihar that drops through the Hazaribagh mountain range in a series of rocky steps. The water travels about 49 meters (160 feet) down into the Lohabar River, forming a pool at the base of the cascade.
The waterfall officially opened to visitors on August 3, 2024, following improvements to the site infrastructure. The work included two phases that focused on safety measures and facilities for guests.
According to regional stories, during Treta Yuga, the Pandavas visited Kakolat Falls where a king received liberation from a sage's curse.
The waterfall sits 33 kilometers from Nawada and 4 kilometers from Thali Bazar, with the strongest flow arriving after monsoon season. The approach uses local roads, and access to the site follows paved paths along the river.
The cascade flows into several natural pools surrounded by dense forest that spread across different levels. Visitors can explore the individual steps along the watercourse and observe the river from different points.
