Nagi Bird Sanctuary

The sanctuary is a wetland area in Jamui district that spreads across water bodies surrounded by dry forests and rocky hills. The water sits still like a large basin, ringed by shores with low growth and stony elevations rising around it.

A dam built between 1955 and 1958 filled this valley with water and created the conditions for birds to gather. From this dam project, the area gradually became a protected zone for water birds.

The people living in nearby villages use the water and shores for daily activities like washing clothes and collecting water for their needs. This everyday interaction shows how local life moves around and alongside the wildlife here.

The best time to visit is during winter months when the place comes alive with migrating birds. Wear sturdy shoes since the walking paths cross uneven shoreline areas.

During winter months, tens of thousands of water birds gather here, including wild geese traveling from distant places. These large gatherings happen only for a short season and make a winter visit feel special.
