Munger Fort

Munger Fort is a stone fortification on the south bank of the Ganges River, with thick walls and a protective moat surrounding the structure. The complex includes various buildings and spaces within its defensive walls.

The fort was first established under the Slave dynasty in 1325 and passed through the hands of different rulers over the centuries. The British East India Company took control in the 18th century and left their mark on the structure.

The fort contains multiple places of worship including temples and mosques that exist side by side. These religious buildings reflect the different faiths that have flourished together within these walls over time.

The fort is accessible by train to Munger station or by road from nearby cities. Walking around the grounds is the best way to explore the different areas and structures.

Inside the fort walls stands a yoga school that has been teaching traditional practices to international students since 1964. This blend of ancient military structure and modern spiritual teaching makes the place quite different from typical historical forts.
