Shore Temple, Hindu temple in Kanchipuram, India
The Shore Temple stands on the Bay of Bengal coast with three separate shrines constructed from large granite blocks.
King Narasimhavarman II ordered the construction of this stone temple complex in 725 CE during the Pallava dynasty period.
The temple walls display detailed granite carvings of sacred Hindu deities, including Shiva, Vishnu, and numerous religious symbols.
The Archaeological Survey of India maintains the temple structure through specific conservation methods to prevent damage from sea salt.
The main shrine contains a Shivalinga, while the northern shrine presents a carving of Vishnu sleeping on the cosmic serpent.
