Naina Devi, Hindu temple complex in Bilaspur district, India
Naina Devi is a temple complex in Bilaspur district, India, set at 1177 meters (3862 feet) above sea level with marble facades and views across forested slopes. The complex consists of several shrines, open courtyards and covered halls linked by narrow staircases and passageways.
The complex grew through successive additions over centuries, with most of the current marble structures dating from the 20th century. In 2008 a stampede during a religious gathering claimed 123 lives at the site.
The name refers to the goddess's eyes, a detail visible in the golden shrines and imagery inside. Pilgrims bring red cloth and yellow flowers that pile into colorful heaps near the entrances.
The cable car runs from 4:00 AM to 10:00 PM and saves the steep climb on foot. Shaded rest areas and drinking water points are available throughout the grounds.
The temple runs its own YouTube channel broadcasting live ceremonies so distant followers can watch the rituals in real time. The camera captures the main shrine, allowing viewers around the world to join the daily worship remotely.
