Bodhan is a town in Nizamabad district in Telangana, located at an elevation of about 377 meters (1,237 feet) and home to around 77,000 people. The town spreads across four neighborhoods: Bodhan, Aneesanagar, Rakasipet, and Shakkarnagar, with busy markets, small factories, and mix of old and newer structures defining its streets.
Bodhan was once a capital for rulers across different periods and formed part of the Satavahana, Rashtrakuta, and Kakatiya empires. The town retained importance over centuries, with old temples and Buddhist relics testifying to this long history, connecting Bodhan to ancient trade routes and spiritual centers that flourished here.
Bodhan is a place where Hindu and Muslim communities live together and celebrate their traditions visibly. Temples and mosques scattered throughout the town fill the streets with prayers and incense, while major festivals like Diwali and Eid bring families together for shared meals and community gatherings that define local life.
National Highway 63 runs through Bodhan and connects the town to Nizamabad and beyond, with buses running regularly to nearby cities and Hyderabad. The railway station with recently extended train service offers another option for travelers heading to more distant destinations.
According to local legend, the Pandavas, heroes from Indian epics, stayed near Bodhan during their exile, with Bhima reportedly fighting the demon Bakasura here. Today, a small hill called Bheemuni Gutta still marks this story and draws visitors interested in the town's connection to Indian mythology.
