Bodhi Tree, Sacred fig tree in Bodh Gaya, India

The Bodhi Tree stands within the Mahabodhi Temple complex, with its broad, heart-shaped leaves extending over a stone platform where people gather for meditation.

Under this tree in the 5th century BCE, Siddhartha Gautama meditated for three days and nights until he achieved enlightenment and became known as Buddha.

Buddhist pilgrims from various countries come to the tree daily, placing offerings and tying colorful prayer flags among its branches.

Visitors can access the Bodhi Tree through the Mahabodhi Temple complex from sunrise to sunset, with security checks required at the entrance.

The Forest Research Institute of India maintains the tree's health through scientific monitoring and preservation techniques established in 2007.
