Ramban district

Ramban is an administrative district in the Jammu region featuring mountainous terrain that rises along the Chenab River. The varying elevations create different climate zones across the area, shaping its geography.

The district was established as an independent administrative entity in 2007 when authorities separated it from the original Doda district. This separation aimed to improve regional administration and local governance.

The local population speaks Kashmiri, Pogali, Urdu, and Gojri, with each language group observing festivals that reflect their separate traditions. This linguistic diversity shapes daily interactions and creates different cultural expressions across the settlements.

National Highway 44 runs through the district, connecting it to larger cities and serving as the main transportation route. The mountainous terrain means travel between places takes longer, so plan accordingly.

The district contains eight subdivisions, including Sanasar located at high elevation in the Himalayan mountains. This settlement offers paragliding and a golf course at altitude, making it an unusual destination for these activities.
