Bhimgarh Fort

Bhimgarh Fort is a fortification on a hillock in Reasi, Jammu and Kashmir, featuring stone walls, watchtowers, and multiple defensive structures arranged across its site. The structure shows layers of different building periods and combines religious and military elements throughout its layout.

Raja Bhimdev Rasyal built the initial clay structure in the 8th century, while Maharaja Gulab Singh added stone fortifications and a new gate in 1817. This transformation marked the shift from an early structure to a reinforced fortress with enhanced defensive features.

The fort houses a temple dedicated to Goddess Mahakali and a Hanuman statue, blending Rajasthani and Mughal architectural styles that visitors can observe today. People come to this site to experience how different periods have left their mark on its appearance and religious significance.

The fort sits roughly 72 kilometers from Jammu and about 24 kilometers from Katra, making it accessible from either starting point. Visitors should expect basic facilities and can arrange guided tours once they arrive.
