The Chenab Bridge spans the Chenab River with a total length of one thousand three hundred fifteen meters featuring a main arch span of four hundred sixty-seven meters and standing three hundred fifty-nine meters above the riverbed below.

History

Construction of the bridge began in two thousand seventeen with foundation work and was completed structurally in August two thousand twenty-two after facing multiple technical challenges related to mountainous terrain and harsh Himalayan weather conditions throughout the building process.

Culture

The bridge represents a major technological achievement for India and symbolizes infrastructure development in the Jammu and Kashmir region by facilitating connectivity between isolated communities and promoting local economic growth through improved transportation networks.

Practical

The bridge is part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla railway line and allows trains to travel at maximum speeds of one hundred kilometers per hour while withstanding earthquakes up to magnitude eight and winds reaching two hundred sixty-six kilometers per hour.
