Gwalior Fort, Hill fortress in Gwalior, India.
The fortress extends over a 3-kilometer sandstone plateau, featuring multiple palaces, temples, and defensive walls rising above the surrounding plains.
The initial construction dates to 525 AD, with subsequent rulers adding structures until the 16th century, including the Man Singh Palace built between 1486 and 1516.
The fortress houses numerous temples, including the Sas Bahu temple with stone carvings and the Teli ka Mandir, representing different architectural periods of Indian history.
Visitors enter through the eastern Gwalior Gate and climb through five successive gates to reach the main plateau, where the Archaeological Survey Museum displays regional artifacts.
The fortress walls contain carved statues of Jain Tirthankars from the 15th century, and a temple inscription bears one of the world's earliest recorded uses of zero.
