Krishna Raja Sagara, Water reservoir in Karnataka, India.
Krishna Raja Sagara is a water reservoir on the Kaveri River in Karnataka state, roughly 12 kilometers northwest of Mysore. The body of water extends over several kilometers and is held back by a dam that regulates the river flow.
Work began in 1911 during a severe drought that left the region short of water. After 20 years of building, the dam was completed in 1931 and supplied cities and fields with water.
The name honors Krishna Raja Wadiyar IV, who pushed the project forward despite major technical difficulties. The site was among the first in India to rely on local building materials for such a large undertaking.
Access to the site is possible from the road that leads to the dam. Visitors can walk along the dam structure and enjoy views of the water and surrounding countryside.
The dam uses automatic gates that regulate water levels without manual intervention. This system makes managing large volumes of water during the rainy season easier.
