Brindavan Gardens, Botanical garden in Mysore, India
Brindavan Gardens is a park near Mysore that spreads across terraced land below a dam. Pathways lead through symmetrically arranged beds, past an artificial lake and through shaded rows of trees.
The site was created in the early 1930s on the instructions of an administrator who wanted to incorporate elements from the gardens of Kashmir and the Mughal period. After opening, the park quickly became a popular destination in the region.
Families stroll along the flower beds and rest on the lawns during weekends. Visitors gather in front of the fountains in the evening to watch the water displays set to music and changing light colors.
The entrance is located right next to the dam and is reached by a paved road. Main paths are surfaced, while some sections are connected by steps between the terraces.
A separate section of the park contains a rose garden with several dozen varieties that bloom at different times of the year. Next to it is a smaller garden dedicated exclusively to native plant species.
