Vetal Hill

Vetal Hill is a summit within Pune's city limits that rises approximately 800 meters above sea level. The slopes are surrounded by educational institutions and covered with forest that supports hundreds of bird and plant species.

The summit gets its name from a shrine dedicated to Vetala that was built on its slopes. This temple made the location a known landmark as the city of Pune developed over time.

The forest here is home to birds and plant life that locals have long recognized as part of their natural landscape. People visit the slopes to walk among trees and observe wildlife in a green setting surrounded by the city.

You can reach the hill from a southern road that has parking available. Vehicle access is blocked during daytime hours from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, so plan accordingly.

The location comprises multiple connected ridges that span a large area within the city boundaries. These extensions together form a connected forest area spread across different neighborhoods.
