Azhakodi Devi Temple, Hindu temple in Thiruthiyad, Kozhikode district, India.
Azhakodi Devi Temple is a Hindu temple in Thiruthiyad, Kozhikode district, Kerala, with a main shrine dedicated to Bhadrakali, seven maternal incarnations, and a Shiva lingam on the same grounds. The complex follows traditional South Indian temple architecture, with multiple shrines arranged around the central sacred space.
The temple was originally known as Arikkodikkavu before it was renamed in 1965, after six generals of the Samoothiri ruler brought the Bhavani Devi idol here. That transfer changed the religious character of the site in a lasting way.
The nine-day festival begins in the Malayalam month of Medam with the kodiyettam, the ritual raising of the temple flag. It closes with the arattu ceremony, where the deity is carried in procession to the water.
The temple is in Thiruthiyad and can be reached from the main bus stands in Kozhikode city without much difficulty. Visiting early in the morning tends to be quieter, while festival days draw large numbers of devotees throughout the day.
This is the only temple in Kerala where two Devi deities are worshipped together as the primary deities. That pairing is rare across the state and gives the site a place of its own within Kerala's temple traditions.
