Azhakodi Devi Temple, Hindu temple in Thiruthiyad, Kozhikode district, India.
Azhakodi Devi Temple is a place of worship in Thiruthiyad featuring a main shrine dedicated to Bhadrakali, along with seven maternal incarnations and a prominent Shiva lingam within its grounds. The complex displays traditional South Indian religious architecture with multiple shrines organized around the central sacred space.
Originally known as Arikkodikkavu, the temple received its current name in 1965 after six generals of the Samoothiri ruler entrusted it with the Bhavani Devi idol. This renaming marked a significant turning point in its development and spiritual purpose.
The temple hosts a nine-day festival starting with kodiyettam in the Malayalam month of Medam and concluding with arattu ceremonies. These celebrations shape the religious life of the community and draw visitors who come to witness traditional rituals.
The temple sits about 1.5 kilometers (0.9 miles) from Mofussil bus stand and about 2.5 kilometers (1.6 miles) from KSRTC bus stand, making it accessible by public transport. The grounds include a dining hall with seating for about 450 people, which is convenient for large groups of visitors and devotees.
This is the only worship place in Kerala where two Devi deities serve as primary deities, setting it apart from most other temples in the region. This double focus on female deities along with the maternal incarnations gives the site special religious importance.
