Built in 1653 during the Golconda Sultanate period, the mosque was constructed by Rustam, son of the Golconda courtier Astirabad Dhulfiqar.
The mosque represents the first example of Indo-Saracenic architectural style in Tamil Nadu, combining Indian and Islamic design elements.
The mosque conducts regular prayer sessions and provides educational programs, including Quran classes for children and adults throughout the year.
