Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Cricket stadium in Dharamshala, India
The Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium is a cricket field in Dharamshala, India, built at an elevation of over 1300 meters on the edge of the Himalayas. The seating areas divide into two main sections known as River End and College End, together offering more than 25000 places for spectators.
The complex opened in 2003 and served mainly regional competitions and training camps at first. Ten years later, it hosted its first international match between India and England, giving the venue international status.
The venue takes its name from the regional cricket association and sits beside a large pine forest with views toward the Dhauladhar mountain range. Visitors often enter the complex through a modern gate of glass and steel that forms a sharp contrast before the green playing surface.
The site sits about four kilometers outside the center of Dharamshala and is reached via a winding mountain road. Practice areas and indoor training rooms stand beside the main ground, so visitors during events often watch players warming up.
The playing surface uses winter rye grass that actively grows even when temperatures drop below 10 degrees Celsius, allowing good pitch quality throughout the year. This choice of grass lets matches take place even during cold months.
