Mansa Devi Temple is a Hindu temple on Bilwa Hill in the city of Haridwar in Uttarakhand state. The main shrine displays two separate figures of the goddess, one with eight arms and the second with three heads and five arms.
Maharaja Gopal Singh of Mani Majra built this temple between 1811 and 1815. The structure quickly became a major religious destination for pilgrims across northern India.
Visitors follow the tradition of tying threads to tree branches within the temple complex to mark their wishes and return to untie them upon fulfillment.
A cable car system runs 540 meters (1,770 feet) from the city to the temple and climbs 178 meters (584 feet) in height. It operates from 7 AM during the months between April and October, with slightly adjusted hours for the remaining season.
Visitors tie threads to tree branches within the temple grounds to mark their wishes, returning to untie them once fulfilled. This practice has created a dense web of colored fabric threads in the trees over the years.
