Muthyalamaduvu, Natural waterfall near Anekal, Karnataka, India

Muthyalamaduvu is a waterfall near Anekal that cascades about 90 feet down dark rock faces into a natural pool below. The falling water creates white spray and fills several smaller pools at different elevations as it descends through the rocky terrain.

The name comes from how sunlight reflects off water droplets, giving them a pearl-like appearance that early observers noted. This particular characteristic led to the place being documented and named during the colonial period.

Local communities gather water from the falls for seasonal ceremonies and farming practices that connect them to the landscape. The waterfall holds practical and spiritual meaning in the rhythms of village life.

Reach the waterfall by walking through the forest trail from the parking area, which takes about 2 kilometers and requires sturdy footwear. The water flow is strongest from July through December, which is when it looks most impressive.

As the water descends, it creates a chain of natural pools stacked at different levels through the rocky terrain. Most visitors focus on the main waterfall but miss the smaller basins above and below, which offer quieter spots to explore.
