Nakshatra Van, Botanical garden in Ranchi, India.
Nakshatra Van is a botanical garden in Ranchi spread across about 20 acres of landscaped grounds with native trees and flowering plants. The space features a central fountain and sits near the Raj Bhawan administrative building.
The garden was created by the Jharkhand Forest Department as part of an effort to establish educational green spaces in Ranchi. The project emerged from a broader goal to enhance the urban environment through trees and landscaping.
The garden is organized around 27 sections linked to lunar mansions in Hindu astrology, with plants chosen to represent each celestial position. Visitors can experience this connection between nature and the stars as they walk through the different areas.
The garden is open daily except Mondays from 9:30 AM to 6:30 PM, with guided tours available to help visitors understand the plants and their properties. Comfortable shoes are recommended since walking through the different sections takes time.
The garden connects plants with Ayurvedic medicine through informational displays along the pathways showing which healing plants are used and their traditional applications. This makes a visit also a learning experience about Indian healing practices.
