Nalknad Palace, Royal palace in Kodagu district, India.

Nalknad Palace is a royal residence built with laterite stone walls, wooden pillars, tiled sloping roofs, and spacious verandas arranged across multiple levels. The structure showcases local architectural features with carefully arranged rooms and natural light flowing through numerous openings.

Built between 1792 and 1794, the palace served as the final stronghold for Chikka Veerarajendra before British forces removed him from power. It represents the end of an independent rule period in the region during the era of British expansion in India.

The wooden doors and windows showcase traditional Kodava motifs and detailed carvings that reflect the skills of local craftspeople from the region.

The palace sits around 30 kilometers from Madikeri and is accessible via marked routes, with the best visiting period between October and March. The cooler season offers comfortable conditions for exploring the grounds and surrounding landscape.

The palace walls contain original murals depicting scenes from daily life during the reign of the Haleri dynasty in the 18th century. These visual records offer a rare glimpse into the household and court culture of that era.
