Senapati fortress, Ancient fortress in Kulpahar, India.
Senapati fortress sits on a hilltop west of Kulpahar with remains of defensive walls built during the 1700s. The structure shows segments of stone construction that hint at how the defenses were once arranged.
The fortress was built around 1700 as an administrative center under the Bundela dynasty. It lost its military role when British forces destroyed it in the early 1800s.
The name refers to a high military commander and the site was a seat of local power under Bundela rule. Visitors can still sense this past importance through the stone remains scattered across the hilltop.
The site is located in the western area of Kulpahar and can be reached by local roads leading to the hilltop. The terrain is generally accessible, though some paths to the remains may be uneven.
The site was a base of political influence under a regional military leader and thus later attracted outside attention. This makes it an example of the smaller but significant power centers that existed across the Bundela region.
