Lakshmi Temple, Khajuraho

Lakshmi Temple sits on an elevated platform within the Western Temple Complex, featuring a front hall, inner sanctuary, and modest tower. The structure maintains a straightforward design with clean proportions and simple architectural elements throughout.

The temple was constructed during the reign of Yashovarman I between 925 and 950 CE, as confirmed by an inscription at its base. This period marks when the broader Khajuraho complex was being established as a major religious center.

Unlike other temples in Khajuraho, this one faces west, an unusual orientation in the complex. Its exterior walls feature minimal sculpture work, standing apart from the elaborately decorated neighboring structures and preserving a notably restrained design.
