Sewri Fort, Military fortress in Sewri, Mumbai, India
The octagonal stone structure contains high defensive walls and multiple bastions positioned along the eastern shoreline of Mumbai Harbor at Sewri.
Built in 1680 during the Maratha Empire period, the fort served as a strategic military outpost to protect Mumbai Harbor from Portuguese naval forces.
The structure represents Maharashtra's military architectural heritage through its design elements, including traditional stone masonry techniques and defense mechanisms.
Visitors can reach the fort by taking local trains to Sewri station, followed by a short walk through the neighborhood streets.
The fort grounds provide observation points for winter migrations of flamingos that gather in large numbers at the adjacent Sewri mudflats.
