Planet Godrej, Residential skyscraper in Mahalaxmi, Mumbai, India
Planet Godrej is a residential tower in the Mahalaxmi neighborhood of Mumbai, rising 51 floors to about 181 meters. The building stands on a large plot where most of the land is left as open space, and the upper floors face the Arabian Sea on one side and the city on the other.
The tower was completed around 2008 and 2009, and for a short time it was considered the tallest residential building in India. Its construction was part of a broader shift in Mumbai, where large plots of land in central neighborhoods began to be developed with tall residential towers.
Planet Godrej sits next to the Mahalaxmi Racecourse, one of the oldest horse racing venues in the city, which shapes the rhythm of the neighborhood on race days. The contrast between the tower and the surrounding temples, street stalls, and older buildings is something visitors notice immediately when walking nearby.
The tower is a private residential building and is not open to outside visitors. The surrounding area is easy to walk around, with the racecourse, nearby temples, and street stalls all within a short distance.
The building was designed by DP Architects, a Singapore-based firm that also worked on Marina Bay Sands. The project received the PINNACLE Award from Zee Business in 2006, several years before construction was even finished.
