Magen David Synagogue, Synagogue in Byculla, India.

Magen David Synagogue is a place of worship in the Byculla neighborhood of Mumbai, built from concrete and designed with distinctive architectural features. Large columns frame the front, decorative stained glass fills the windows, and a clock tower rises above the structure.

David Sassoon established this religious center in 1864 to serve the Jewish community. His grandson Jacob Sassoon undertook major expansion work in 1910 to accommodate growing numbers of worshippers.

The synagogue brings together Bene-Israel, Cochini, and Baghdadi Jewish communities in Mumbai for prayer and celebration. Sabbath services and holiday gatherings remain central to how locals and visitors experience this place today.

Daily morning services take place here, and the space welcomes visitors from all faiths throughout the year. A breakfast is offered after morning prayers, so arriving early helps you participate fully in the community rhythm.

This stands as the largest synagogue serving Baghdadi Jews anywhere in Asia outside Israel, marking the historical importance of this community in Mumbai. The building itself reflects how central this place has been to one of India's oldest Jewish diaspora settlements.
