Godiji, Jain temple in Pydhonie, Mumbai, India
Godiji is a Jain temple featuring a white marble statue of Parshwanath seated in meditative posture within its central shrine. The interior displays intricate stone carvings and religious symbols arranged throughout the worship spaces.
The temple was founded in 1812 and relocated to its present location in 1868 after a fire destroyed its original building in the Fort area. The sacred statue was brought from Hamirpur in Rajasthan and has remained here ever since.
This temple functions as a gathering place where Jain devotees perform daily prayers and observances. The space reflects how the community has maintained their religious customs across generations.
The temple is situated near several train stations and can be reached easily on foot. Visitors will find meditation spaces and dining areas inside that are available for public use.
In 2012, the temple celebrated its bicentennial with a community gathering where approximately 800,000 people shared a meal together. This milestone event was honored by the postal service with a commemorative stamp.
