Nehru Science Centre, Science museum in Worli, Mumbai, India
The Nehru Science Centre in Worli is a science museum spread across more than 3 hectares with over 500 interactive exhibits on energy, sound, mechanics, and transport. The exhibition halls are distributed across multiple buildings, including an outdoor Science Park and rooms for three-dimensional demonstrations.
The National Council of Science Museums opened a first exhibition in temporary spaces in 1977 and created the world's first Science Park on this site in 1979. The permanent buildings were expanded in the following years to accommodate the growing collection and rising visitor numbers.
Named after India's first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, whose commitment to science education shaped the nation's approach to learning. School groups from across Mumbai regularly gather in the interactive zones, where students work together on experiments and demonstrations.
The museum opens daily from 9:30 to 18:00 and offers demonstrations on multiple floors distributed throughout the day. Visitors should plan at least three hours to explore the main areas comfortably and participate in some hands-on demonstrations.
The museum features a Science On A Sphere installation, a glowing globe that projects global weather patterns, ocean currents, and astronomical events onto its surface. Visitors stand around the sphere and watch as data moves across the surface in real time.
