Shivaji Park, Public park in Dadar, India.
Shivaji Park is a large public green space in the Dadar neighborhood of Mumbai, covering around 28 acres (113,000 square meters) and used for sports and recreation. The central grass field is surrounded by tree-lined paths, and there are cricket nets, tennis courts, football pitches, plus a gymnasium and a children's playground.
The Bombay Municipal Corporation created this space in 1925 as Mahim Park to provide green space for the growing neighborhood population. Two years later, in 1927, it was renamed Shivaji Park in honor of the 17th-century Maratha king.
Locals come here to practice yoga in the morning, walk at sunset, or hold family gatherings on weekends, making the space a social center. Political rallies take place regularly, and several memorials honor figures from Maharashtra who shaped public life in the region.
The grounds are quietest early in the morning and late afternoon, when joggers and walkers use the paths, while the sports areas get busy during the day. Access is possible from all sides, and the main paths are wide enough for wheelchairs and strollers.
Sachin Tendulkar trained here as a young player and often returned to practice on the same nets where he started his career. The local community library inside the park remains a popular spot for Dadar residents who come to read and study.
