Sree Chovva Shiva Temple, Hindu temple complex in Kannur district, India
The Sree Chovva Shiva Temple spreads across 3.5 acres of land, featuring a two-tier sanctum sanctorum with a 5.25-foot-tall Shivalinga at its center.
The temple endured significant damage during Tipu Sultan's invasion in the eighteenth century, leading to the disruption of its traditional administration by local landlords.
Multiple deities including Vishnu, Ayyappan, Kali, Ganpathi, and Subramanyan occupy dedicated spaces within the temple, reflecting the diversity of Hindu worship.
The temple welcomes visitors from 6:00 to 10:00 am and 5:00 to 8:00 pm, with men required to wear traditional mundu while women may wear saree, set mundu, or salwar kameez.
The temple houses a 5.25-foot Shivalinga and maintains special Saturday morning rituals of Maha Mrityunjaya Homam along with Monday Dravya Rudrabhishekam ceremonies.
