Tigawa Temple

Tigawa Temple is a Hindu temple in Katni district featuring an open entrance area supported by four pillars with intricate carved details. The door frames display detailed sculptural work, while the interior sanctuary contains various religious carvings and representations.

The temple was built between 400 and 425 CE during the Gupta period and stands among about 36 temple ruins at this archaeological site. This era was marked by religious and artistic flourishing across the region.

The temple displays representations of Vishnu in different forms throughout the sanctuary and entrance hall. These carvings reflect religious beliefs that have been honored in this region for centuries.

The temple is about 80 kilometers from Jabalpur airport and is best reached by bus or taxi through the town of Bahuriband. Visitors should wear good footwear since the site covers archaeological remains spread across open ground.

The temple blends features of Hindu and Buddhist architectural styles, pointing to cultural exchange in the 5th century. This mixing of religious building elements is rarely found in other places of worship from that era.
