Dumna Nature Reserve Park, Nature reserve in Jabalpur district, India.
Dumna Nature Reserve Park is a forested protected area on a plateau in Jabalpur district, India, built around a lake formed by a 19th-century dam. The grounds include walking trails through forest and grassland, a hanging bridge over the lake, tent platforms, a restaurant, and a toy train that loops through part of the park.
A dam built in 1883 under British administration held back the river and formed the lake that now sits at the heart of the reserve. That change in the landscape set the conditions for the area to eventually become a protected zone for wildlife.
Families from Jabalpur come here on weekends to walk the trails and spend time near the water. The hanging bridge is a popular spot where children and adults alike pause to watch the lake below.
Walking is the main way to move around the park, and comfortable shoes are worth wearing since the trails cover varied ground. A visit easily fills half a day, so arriving in the morning gives the most time to explore different sections before it gets too hot.
Leopards live within the reserve boundaries, which is uncommon for a protected area so close to a large city. Early morning walkers on the forest paths occasionally spot deer or other animals before the rest of the visitors arrive.
