Mandla Plant Fossils National Park, Paleobotanical national park in Mandla district, India

Mandla Plant Fossils National Park is a paleobotanical reserve in Madhya Pradesh that displays remains of plants from an era when this region was underwater. The site shows fossilized specimens of palms and other vegetation preserved in rock formations across its protected grounds.

The park was established in 1983 to protect plant fossils from the Jurassic period that are over 65 million years old. This area was once covered by an ancient sea that preserved and later turned these plants into stone.

Scientists and researchers from multiple institutions regularly conduct studies at the park, contributing to global understanding of prehistoric flora.

The park is open year-round, but the best time to visit is between October and March when the weather is mild and pleasant. During the hotter months the climate can be intense, so visitors should plan their trips accordingly.

The park holds over 31 different plant genera, some of which may belong to the oldest known eucalyptus types. This collection shows an extraordinary range of flora from a very distant past.
