Thirukumaresar temple, Hindu temple in Cuddalore district, India

Thirukumaresar is a Hindu temple featuring a five-tiered stone gateway and multiple shrines within rectangular granite walls. The layout includes a main sanctuary devoted to Lord Shiva along with several smaller worship spaces.

The temple was founded roughly 2000 years ago during the Pallava and medieval Chola periods. Significant renovations and expansions occurred during the Nayak era, reshaping parts of its structure.

This place serves as a spiritual center where worshippers gather for daily prayers and celebrations throughout the year. The sacred space brings the community together, especially during major festivals when people from surrounding areas visit to participate in ceremonies.

The temple opens early in the morning and closes in the evening, with special activities taking place on certain weekdays. Proximity to the railway station and bus terminal makes access straightforward.

The temple houses two ornate ceremonial chariots, one made of silver and another of gold, used during festival processions through the streets. These chariots are among the most important objects in the annual celebrations.
