Perianayagi Madha Shrine, Catholic shrine in Konankuppam, Tamil Nadu, India.
The Perianayagi Madha Shrine features a life-size wooden statue of Virgin Mary standing on a ten-foot pedestal in traditional Tamil attire.
Italian missionary Fr. Constantine Beschi established the shrine in 1720 after a local man named Kachirayar discovered a missing statue in the forest.
The shrine combines Catholic traditions with Tamil customs, evidenced by the Manila-crafted statue depicting Mother Mary in regional clothing.
The shrine conducts daily mass services and holds an annual ten-day celebration from January 14 to 23, concluding with a decorated car procession.
Fr. Beschi composed the Tamil poem Tembavani in 1726, documenting the shrine's founding and incorporating local literary traditions.
