Ulagalantha Perumal Temple, Tirukoyilur, Hindu temple in Tirukoyilur, Tamil Nadu
Ulagalantha Perumal Temple sits along the Pennar River and covers a large compound with three towering structures topped by seven finials each. The complex holds several shrines and wide halls where worshippers perform rituals and prayers.
The complex began under Pallava rule and was later expanded by Chola, Vijayanagara, and Madurai Nayak dynasties. Each dynasty added new halls and shrines, so the architecture shows elements from different centuries.
Four Divya Desams, sacred Vaishnava sites including Thirukaarvaanam, Thirukaaragam, Thiruooragam, and Thiruneeragam, are integrated within this temple complex.
The temple celebrates Brahmotsavam in January or February and Vamana Jayanti in August or September, when pilgrims arrive from across the country. During these times the courtyards are busy and processions and ceremonies take place.
The main statue shows Trivikrama with a raised leg and stands over ten meters tall, holding a conch in the right hand and a discus in the left. This representation is among the tallest of its kind in Tamil Nadu.
