Arahanthgiri Jain Math

Arahanthgiri Jain Math, Ancient Jain temple in Tiruvannamalai, India.

Arahanthgiri Jain Math is an ancient Jain temple complex built into a hillside in Tiruvannamalai, with natural caves that serve as meditation spaces and chambers for manuscripts. A carved statue of the Jain saint Neminath stands at the top, visible from below and accessible by climbing the steps.

The temple originated in ancient times as a significant spiritual center where large communities of Jain monks gathered to practice their faith. The site developed over centuries and became an important place for preserving religious knowledge and teachings.

This place draws pilgrims who come to meditate and participate in prayers throughout the year. The community gathers here for religious observances and spiritual practices that remain central to daily worship.

The climb to the summit requires good footing and sturdy shoes, especially on humid or wet days. Plan plenty of time for the ascent and prepare for steep terrain on the way up.

The caves house hundreds of ancient religious manuscripts that have been preserved for centuries, showing how knowledge passed down through generations. This collection makes the site an overlooked archive of Jain learning.
