Government Museum, Tiruchirappalli, Heritage centre in Chokkanatha Nayak Palace, Tiruchirappalli, India
The Government Museum features over 2000 exhibits across multiple sections, including ancient sculptures, megalithic artifacts, and regional historical collections.
Established in 1983, the museum occupies the Rani Mangammal Darbar Hall, which served as the capital seat of Madurai Nayaks from 1616 to 1731.
The museum displays stone sculptures of Gautam Buddha, Mahavira, and Lord Vishnu, alongside Hindu artifacts dating from the 13th to 18th centuries.
Located near Chatram bus station, the museum welcomes visitors from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM every day except Fridays, with parking available on site.
The outdoor sculpture park contains 45 stone sculptures, including a 10th-century stone window from Alundur village bearing Tamil inscriptions.
