Kolkata Eye, Unbuilt Ferris wheel near Hooghly River, Kolkata, India.
Kolkata Eye is an unbuilt observation wheel that was designed to rise above the Hooghly River at approximately 120 meters tall. It would have featured 30 rotating passenger capsules offering views across the city and waterfront.
The project was launched in 2011 as an ambitious plan to give Kolkata a major observation structure. Development phases progressed with international involvement, though construction never began.
The structure's name caused legal concerns with Merlin Entertainment company, leading to its later designation as Kolkata Giant Wheel.
Since the structure was never built, visitors can only explore the planned location along the river today. The waterfront area remains easily accessible for understanding where the structure would have stood.
The original name faced legal challenges, leading to it being called Kolkata Giant Wheel in later phases. This renaming shows how the project evolved through different stages before being abandoned.
