Lammasingi is a mountain village in the Eastern Ghats that sits at roughly 1000 meters altitude and is known for its cool temperatures. During winter the readings often drop close to zero degrees, which is uncommon in this region.
The area was once covered with dense forests where tigers lived. Later, protected zones were established to preserve the wildlife of the region.
Residents tend their gardens with pepper plants, coffee bushes and tea shrubs along the slopes. These crops grow slowly in the cool mountain air and shape the look of the place with their deep green color.
The journey is by road from Visakhapatnam, which sits roughly 100 kilometers away and offers the nearest railway station and airport. During winter months warm clothing is needed as mornings and evenings become very cold.
Eucalyptus and pine trees grow on plantations among the traditional crops. In recent years farmers have also tried growing apples and strawberries, which is possible at this altitude.
