Ashoka pillar, Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi, Ancient sandstone pillar in Central Delhi, India
The Ashoka Pillar measures 13 meters in height with a base diameter of 97 centimeters, featuring inscriptions in Brahmi script across its polished surface.
Emperor Ashoka erected this monumental pillar during the 3rd century BCE at Topra, before Feroz Shah Tughlaq relocated it to Delhi in the 14th century.
The pillar contains Buddhist teachings carved in Prakrit language, reflecting the spread of Buddhist philosophy throughout the ancient Indian subcontinent.
The monument stands within the Feroz Shah Kotla complex, accessible to visitors through the main entrance of the historical fortress in Central Delhi.
Two hundred men pulled this massive structure on a specially designed carriage, wrapped in silk cotton for protection during its transportation from Topra.
