Shahi Sunehri Masjid, Mosque in Red Fort, India
The Shahi Sunehri Masjid features three bulbous gilt domes and slender minarets rising above street level on an elevated plinth with stairs.
Roshan-ud-Daula Zafar Khan constructed this religious structure in 1721, during the reign of Mughal Emperor Muhammad Shah as a tribute to Shah Bhik.
The mosque maintains its role as a center for Islamic worship while displaying architectural elements that represent the Indo-Islamic building traditions.
Located near Chandni Chowk Road, the mosque opens daily for prayers and allows visitors to observe its architectural features during non-prayer times.
In 1739, Persian ruler Nadir Shah used this mosque as his observation point when he commanded the systematic plunder of Delhi.
