Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium, Cricket field in Delhi, India
Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium is a cricket ground in Delhi, India, with a natural grass pitch and stands for over 35,000 spectators during international matches. The venue includes modern grandstands with covered sections and a large electronic scoreboard behind the southern end.
The ground opened in 1883 and took its original name from a nearby 14th-century fort. The first test match between India and the West Indies took place here in 1948, just months after independence.
Three stands carry the names of famous players from Delhi who began their careers here and later represented the national team. Families often arrive hours before matches, bringing drums and flags to cheer loudly for their teams.
The nearest metro station is about a 10-minute walk along Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg. Security checks take place at all entrances, so arriving at least an hour before the start helps avoid queues.
One player took all ten opposition batsmen in a single innings here in 1999, a feat extremely rare in test cricket. Only three players worldwide have ever achieved this performance.
