Triund, Mountain settlement in Kangra district, India
Triund is a mountain settlement in Kangra district perched on a ridge surrounded by dense forests of oak and rhododendron trees. The settlement sits at a vantage point with open views toward the Dhauladhar range and the valleys below.
Early shepherds from Chamba and Kangra valleys used this location as part of their seasonal migration routes through the mountain region. Those old pathways remain visible today and form the basis for trekking routes that modern visitors follow.
The surrounding area houses numerous Buddhist monasteries and meditation centers, reflecting the strong Tibetan influence in the region.
Visitors reach the settlement via a trekking path of approximately 9 kilometers from McLeodganj with several rest stops along the way. Tea houses scattered throughout the route offer water and refreshments for purchase.
The location offers direct views of snow-covered peaks rising to 4,800 meters on one side and the extensive Kangra Valley on the other.
