Jungpana Tea Estate is a tea garden in the Darjeeling region, spanning approximately 78 acres on slopes between 1,000 and 1,500 meters elevation in West Bengal. The property uses the mountainous terrain with gentle hillsides where tea plants grow and are processed.
The estate was founded in 1899 and passed through several owners, including the Rana of Nepal, before being acquired by the Kejriwal family in 1956. This transition marked a turning point in the property's management and operations.
The estate's name reflects the local landscape and forest that characterize the area. Visitors can observe workers moving through the tea bushes and witness traditional hand-harvesting methods used during picking seasons.
Accessing the estate requires descending more than 350 steps across the Changey Khola river and is reachable only on foot. The nearest access point lies about 12 kilometers south of Kurseong, so visitors should wear suitable footwear and allow adequate time.
The estate employs one of the few female factory managers in the region, demonstrating how it creates leadership roles for women in tea processing. This progressive stance sets it apart from many other traditional tea gardens.
