Taj Bengal, hotel in Kolkata, India
Taj Bengal is a hotel on Belvedere Road in the Alipore area of Kolkata, India, with around 200 rooms and suites. The lobby is spacious, with high ceilings, polished floors, palm trees, and decorative terracotta figures.
The hotel opened on October 10, 1989, as the first property of the Taj group in West Bengal. For more than two decades, it remained the only one of its chain in the region.
The hotel draws its name from the famous Taj Mahal and represents a blend of Indian tradition with contemporary hospitality. Its design and spaces reflect this cultural bridge, creating an environment where guests from diverse backgrounds feel welcomed.
The hotel sits on a well-traveled road and is easy to reach by car, with parking available on site. Nearby parks, markets, and historical spots make it a good base for exploring that part of the city.
During construction, the project sparked local debate because residents were worried about its effect on the nearby Alipore Zoo. In the end, the building went up without lasting consequences for the zoo next door.
