Central Bank of Iraq Tower, Futuristic office tower in Al-Jadriya, Iraq
The Central Bank of Iraq Tower is a 172-meter office building along the Tigris River with a twisting exoskeleton frame that defines its exterior structure. The 37-story structure contains specialized facilities including data centers, cash management areas, and museums.
The project received a design commission from renowned architect Zaha Hadid in 2010, and construction began in 2018. Completion was targeted for 2024.
The exterior pattern reflects waves of the Tigris River, blending modern design with local natural forms. This approach shows how contemporary architecture can incorporate elements from the surrounding landscape.
The building sits directly on the Tigris and has multiple entrance points with different security levels. Visitors should expect that access may be restricted and security procedures must be followed.
The tower's silhouette narrows at the top and bottom while widening in the middle, creating an unexpected form. This tapering is not merely decorative but has functional effects on wind loads and internal space distribution.
