Gholhak Garden, Persian garden in District 3, Tehran, Iran.
Gholhak Garden is an expansive green space in Tehran's District 3 that combines Persian garden principles with classical Qajar architectural elements. The grounds feature symmetrical pathways, water pools, fountains, and several historical buildings arranged among mature and newer trees.
In the 19th century, the Qajar monarchy granted this land to British diplomats when Gholhak was a small village outside Tehran. Throughout the 20th century, the site became an important diplomatic hub and has housed various international institutions ever since.
The garden developed as a diplomatic compound during the Qajar era and reflects Tehran's role in international relations of that period. This history remains visible today through the blend of Persian garden design with European architectural touches found throughout the grounds.
The garden is accessible from Shariati Street, with Gholhak Metro Station providing direct connection to the location. Plan time for a leisurely exploration, as the grounds cover a large area with several buildings to discover.
Within the garden stands a cemetery holding over 500 graves of British and Commonwealth soldiers from both World Wars. This quiet space tells a moving story of international presence in the region during the 20th century.
