Silveh Dam, Embankment dam in Piranshahr County, Iran.
Silveh Dam is an embankment structure that spans 731 meters across the Lavin River with a height of 92 meters. The installation diverts water through an 841-meter tunnel toward the Lake Urmia basin and supplies irrigation to approximately 9,400 hectares of farmland.
Construction of the Silveh Dam began in 2004 as part of Iran's broader water management strategy. The project reached completion in 2018 after 14 years of ongoing work.
The construction of the reservoir led to the relocation of the village of Silveh, fundamentally changing the community structure of Piranshahr County. Nearby settlements now depend heavily on irrigation from the created lake.
The main road from Piranshahr provides direct access to the dam facility, making it straightforward to reach. Weather conditions at the site vary throughout the year, particularly during the wet season when the area may be challenging to navigate.
The structure transfers roughly 121 million cubic meters of water annually northward to the Chaparabad region. This water supply serves both agricultural irrigation and the replenishment of Lake Urmia, one of the region's largest saltwater bodies.
